Kate told her wonderful story of her journey into helping people learn the skills of Non Violent Communication (NVC). She referred to Joanna Macy’s quote that “We can’t build what we haven’t first cherished in our hearts” to explain her commitment to having a powerful vision. She also explained the breakthrough she received when confronted with an escalating system conflict - that behind every conflict people have needs - become curious about these needs.
She explained that it is not stopping our judgements but deciding what to do with our judgements that is an important shift. Conflict comes when there is a lot of passion. Get curious about people’s passions so that cooperation come quickly and go well by using NVC skills.
Conflict is the arrival of new information in a system that seeks to remain the same - Dominic Barter. Conflict is inevitable but combat and violence are optional.
Life Alienating Systems involve Scarcity, Separation and Powerlessness. Life Aligned Systems involve Flow, Togetherness and Choice. The bridge involves learning to use Soft Qualities of Tenderness, Vulnerability, Compassion, Generosity, Humility, Mourning and Receptivity.
Kate also explained the great value she has received from Niki Kashtan’s global generosity community https://nglcommunity.org/
