2025 Reflections

For our November conversation we will reflect on the last 12 months since the International Contemporary Restorative Practice Conference 2024.

We will also launch the conference video channel which is hosted by NED Foundation, including the showreel and talks from the keynote speakers including Prof. Jennifer Llewellyn, Debbie McGrath, Aunty Judy Atkinson and Uncle Glenn Loughrey.

Here is my brief reflection of my experience to stimulate thought and to prepare to share our learning and practice in 2025.

The conference was an immense experience for me personally as it represented both the culmination of participating in the conference organising group over the course of the year where I grew into learning about the community of practitioners Nationally and Internationally and an intense in-person experience of a fashion that I have not experienced previously at a conference. It was if the door to a restorative lab was opened and out poured a collective energy and wisdom that could see its way toward changing the world, one relationship at a time.

Indeed, it was an energy rich with the spirit of collaboration and paying it forward as swarms of conference delegates all did their best to overindulge in learning and witnessing the power of positive responses to harm. For a program filled with the practical approaches to dealing with the negative aspects of human behaviour it somehow transcended the downside, mostly, and restored hope that if we were there participating then we were part of the solution, showing the way to practicing safe and relational ways of being over adversarial approaches to responding to harm.
