About the Practitioner

Motivation:

John believes that existing responses to each other when things go wrong, or when one of us harms another, almost always seem to be inappropriate, blunt, often making things worse, exclusive and suiting the needs of some over others. Restorative approaches provide inclusive, informed and appropriate responses that offer genuine learning and transformation. A no-brainer really.

Brings to the Discussion:

Proactive ReSolutions has been researching, developing and implementing Restorative Practice processes for more than 20 years. Our business employs and contracts highly experienced professionals, both nationally and internationally. They conduct programs in a wide range of areas including understanding and building resilience for new and emerging harmscapes, facilitating processes following the destruction of sites of significance to First Nations peoples, facilitating processes for responding to harm caused by individuals and/or organisations to the natural environment, providing violence risk assessment and management expertise, building and maintaining high performance leadership teams, restorative conferences for conflict transformation, outsourced ombudsing, workplace investigations, and conflict prevention workshops in addition to other specialties.

Additional Information:

ProActive ReSolutions has an extensive list of long-term clients ranging from large corporates, all tiers of government, not for profit agencies and community groups. We don't subscribe to best practice, preferring to identify the Design Principles that inform our practice.

In recent years we have become increasingly involved in understanding and responding to new and emerging harmscapes associated with three new worlds:

The New Planet with the advent of the Anthropocene, the new geological epoch caused by the Industrial Revolution and subsequent Climate Change, where we’re experiencing an increased frequency and severity of catastrophic weather events, that create new and unforeseen harmscapes with implications for resilience at the individual, community, government and corporate levels.

The new Digital Age with data streams that run through the digital networks, and the algorithms that analyse these masses of data, constituting the information armature indispensable for the functioning of complex societies. The economic and social benefits of the Digital Revolution are accompanied by new harmscapes, new forms of delinquency and attacks against critical infrastructure.

The New Human, our third transformation which is all about the new emerging Human Capacities, focusing on humans and our assemblages with other earthlings, what we refer to as techno-humans, whereby we physically converge with technologies and explore the new harmscapes brought about by this convergence.

Each of these new worlds demands different ways of engaging with each other and we offer a variety of restorative approaches to accommodate this need.
