Transforming Justice Australia is a community-based organisation providing restorative practices for people harmed by sexual abuse, those responsible, their families and community.
We provide restorative justice and practices in response to sexual abuse, research, advocacy, training and specialist advisory services to individuals, the community, organisations, and Government.
Our values of survivor voice, dignity, accountability, choice, and hope guide our work and we offer services in the community, and alongside the legal system. We can work with all kinds of sexual abuse, child sexual assault and related matters.
Transforming Justice Australia are very excited to announce that from November 2023, they will be providing restorative justice learning opportunities to individuals and organisations in two main forms:
1. An Introductory Learning Circle (Half Day)
This introductory learning circle will provide an initial introduction to restorative justice principles and process. This will be offered both online and face-to-face.
This workshop could be attended by people with relatively little experience in processes or roles that directly relate to the response to sexual harm but who have an interest to learn more about restorative justice.
2. Four Part Restorative learning circle – Preparing for Practice (12 hours)
This four-part learning circle will support people wanting to facilitate restorative justice conversations and processes. The learning circles would be available for people who have already had significant experience in working with people who have been sexually harmed or been responsible for harm.
This learning circle will total 12 hours and will be offered in three formats:
- Three hours once a week for a period of 4 weeks face-to-face.
- Three hours once a week for a period of 4 weeks online.
- Three hours over four consecutive days face-to-face.
Each of the learning circle formats will be facilitated by two co-facilitators and will be limited to up to 15 people. The limited number and format of the learning circles:
- a. reflects the principles of restorative justice which is based on the building of trusted and meaningful relationship and open dialogue.
- b. actively supports and encourages shared listening/voice for all participants.
- c. centres on reflective and mutual learning about the principles and practice of restorative justice, how they can be applied to respond to harm, and moves away from a strict model where facilitators “teach”.
- d. is based on a model where contributions and reflections about concepts and issues are sought before the theory/models of practice are explored.
We are also available to tailor restorative learning opportunities based on specific organisational need and can engage further with organisations or community groups to develop these opportunities.
