This conference is the first of its kind in Western Australia exploring the principles of restorative practice and how they can be used effectively in education, justice, organisations, and legal systems to create more harmonious communities. The W.A. Branch of Restorative Practices International is hosting the event.
We have a range of highly respected speakers, including Carmen Lawrence, former Premier of W.A. and an expert in the field of human rights; Magistrate Steve Wilson: Criminal Barrister, Brenda Robbins, who is a great advocate of mediation rather than sentencing; Laurence Riley, aboriginal spokesperson from the Ombudsman; Dr Natalie Gately, who has researched extensively in the field of criminal incarceration; Steve McKinnon, from the Sycamore Tree Project, which uses the principles of RP with prisoners; and representatives from Youth Justice and schools. And more to be finalised.
